About Me

Hi! My name is Emma and I’m All Over the Place.

Having been raised on a tiny island in the Pacific, I’ve experienced travel from all sides of the spectrum. From working as a waterfall adventure tour guide in Hawai’i, to crafting personalized itineraries as a travel specialist in Morocco, I’ve had first-hand experience in the travel industry.

I first started traveling internationally at 18 while in college. Now at 23, I’ve visited and financed travel to over 30 countries on 6 different continents. How? Well contrary to many people’s first assumptions, I don’t have a trust fund or bottomless pockets for travel. No mysterious benefactor is sending me lump sums of money each month (though applications for this position are open). Instead, I focus on optimizing travel hacks and finding the best ways to earn money while studying and living abroad.

So no, I’m definitely not staying in luxurious, over the top resorts and Airbnbs. Instead, I’m a true budget hostel lover and have crashed on my fair share of couches. While many of my experiences haven’t been the most glamorous or insta-worthy (like sleeping at a bus stop in Bolivia or on a concrete bench in Sicily), I think they make the journey all the more interesting.

Why “All Over the Place”?

I wanted to create a travel resource for people like me–20-something year olds (or 20-somethings at heart) who have absolutely no idea what they want to do with their lives, but they know they want to go somewhere.

While running through a jumble of name ideas, I reflected on what drives my travels. Honestly, I’m not interested in one particular region, or language, or type of travel experience. I’m interested in just about all of it, all at once (if that makes any sense). The name “All Over the Place” really captured that essence.

My goal with All Over the Place is to learn as much about the world as I can through travel, and share my advice and experiences. I strive to post helpful and authentic destination guides as well as stories about the mishaps and surprises that make travel interesting.

Most importantly, I want to be able to grow All Over the Place into a resource that promotes sustainable and conscious travel. Growing up on an island, I’ve seen first-hand what damage travel can have on environments, economies, and communities if left unchecked. I want to see the travel industry develop to become more environmental and culturally sustainable, and I hope one day to be a part of that transition.
