Here are several ways to get to the unbelievably gorgeous Ouzoud Falls, as well as what you should expect from your visit there.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>So What Are the Ouzoud Falls?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Ouzoud Falls &#8212; or the Cascade D\u2019Ouzoud &#8212; are a series of waterfalls that empty into the El-Abid River Gorge. The Falls are multi-tired and deposit into several swimmable fresh water pools. The word \u201cOuzoud\u201d most closely translates to \u201cthe act of grinding grain\u201d in Berber, which could derive from the plentiful grain mills in the region.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ouzoud Falls spans a total height of 110 meters, making it the second-largest waterfall in Africa behind Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Here are a variety of ways to get to Ouzoud from the Ochre city:  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Car&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This way to Ouzoud is the most direct &#8212; renting a car and driving yourself to the Falls. There are plenty of car rental companies that rent to foreigners in Marrakech. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The road to Ouzoud is pretty straightforward with a few switchbacks and hills. You get to drive through the Palm Groves of Marrakech and foothills of the Atlas Mountain, so make sure that your passenger has their camera ready! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Guided Tour&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Personally, this is the option that we opted for on our journey to Ouzoud. There are plenty of tour operators easily booked through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/AttractionToursAndTickets-g608442-d19633682-Ouzoud_Falls-Ouzoud_Beni_Mellal_Khenifra.html\">Trip Advisor<\/a>. These providers essentially offer the same service &#8212; private transportation between Ouzoud and Marrakech and a personal guide to take you around the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the guide was not necessary (the trail leading down to the Falls is pretty straightforward), it was nice to have someone from the area to chat with and help organize the boat ride and lunch.&nbsp;The tours shouldn&#8217;t cost you more than 200-350 MAD in total per person. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Shared Taxi&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In Morocco, there are two types of taxis. Taxi Saghirs (local small taxis) and Taxi Kabirs (big white taxis). Taxi Kabirs&#8211;the white taxis&#8211;can take you in between cities throughout Morocco. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To get to Ouzoud, you can grab a shared White Taxi from a Taxi station in Marrakech headed to Azilal. Like nearby Ifrane, Ouzoud is known for their local macaque monkeys. And they\u2019re <em>huge<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The monkeys are really friendly and will even climb up on you (typically prompted by one of the tour guides). At first, I was worried about my camera but to my surprise the monkeys didn\u2019t try to grab any of our things. They did &#8212; however &#8212; open tree nuts into our hair, but what can you expect? They&#8217;re monkeys! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped aligncenter wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex Boats&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>These boats were an unexpected favorite part of the trip. They cost about 10-20 dirhams and&nbsp;(1-2 USD) and take you around the Falls for a couple minutes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our rower brought us right up to the Falls and we got absolutely soaked&nbsp;in the water spray. The options for lunch are pretty typical &#8212; kefta, tagine,&nbsp;and a few assortments of Moroccan salads. While the food is overpriced for Moroccan standards, you&#8217;re paying for the gorgeous terrace views, so it&#8217;s hard to complain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Going for a Dip<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>More than likely during your visit to Ouzoud, you\u2019ll see scores of young kids jumping off the rocks and playing in the waterfall pools. Honestly there were so many of them swimming right up to the rowboats that I thought they were going to get run over!&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While people swim all over the waterfall pools (and even right up to and under the Falls), there are a few different areas to swim at. Though there isn\u2019t nearly the selection of treasures that you\u2019d find in a Marrakech souk, you can still find some great knick knacks or products alongside&nbsp;the trail. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At one of the lookouts, you can also buy some herbs for teas and tisanes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Returning to Marrakech&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, with that you\u2019ve hopefully enjoyed your day at Ouzoud! While the trail is by no means a difficult one, it can easily get dusty or muddy which could definitely lead to a twisted ankle or worse if you\u2019re not careful. Definitely wear athletic shoes and watch your step on the way down!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to athletic shoes, I\u2019d also recommend some loose-fitting clothes that you don\u2019t mind getting a little dirty or wet.
